Abstract. The results of the study showed a positive effect of the plant covering on the quantity and quality of the marketable yield of garlic grown for bunching harvest. The highest plant yield was obtained when the objects were covered by perforated foil (4.92 kg·m-2) and when the cloves were planted with 3 pieces per point (6.19 kg·m-2).

Key words: winter garlic, type of covers, methods of clove planting, cultivated for bunching harvest

The influence of flat covers and methods of clove planting on yielding of garlic cultivated for bunching harvest

Summary

In the experiment conducted in the years 2003-2005 the effect of flat covers (perforated foil, polypropylene non-woven) and the method of clove planting (one clove per point, two and three cloves per point) on the quantity and quality of the yield of garlic grown for bunching harvest was estimated. On the average for two years of the study the highest yield was obtained when the plants were covered by perforated foil. Moreover, the plants were characterized by greater number of leaves, greater mass of green leaves and greater bulb diameter. Among the analysed clove planting methods – the best productive effects were obtained for planting three cloves per point.
